Technical SEO checklist for UAE businesses in 2026
Technical SEO is the part of SEO that has nothing to do with content. For UAE businesses competing on high-value keywords, technical issues are often the difference between page one and page four.
Technical SEO is the part of SEO that has nothing to do with content. It is about whether Google can find your pages, read them, and trust them enough to rank them. For UAE businesses competing on keywords like 'web design Dubai' or 'IT support Abu Dhabi', technical issues are often the difference between page one and page four.
Core Web Vitals
Google uses Core Web Vitals as a ranking signal. The three metrics that matter are Largest Contentful Paint (how fast your main content loads), Cumulative Layout Shift (whether elements jump around as the page loads), and Interaction to Next Paint (how quickly the page responds to user input).
Most UAE business websites fail on Largest Contentful Paint because of unoptimised images. Hero images that are 3MB PNG files loaded on a page that should be 200KB total. If your LCP is above 4 seconds on mobile, this is your first fix.
HTTPS and security headers
HTTPS is a baseline requirement. If your site is still on HTTP, Google is actively downranking it and Chrome is showing a security warning to visitors. Beyond HTTPS, security headers like Content-Security-Policy and X-Frame-Options are increasingly checked by enterprise clients who want to know your setup is secure.
Crawlability and indexation
- Check your robots.txt file. Make sure it is not accidentally blocking Google from crawling your main pages.
- Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console.
- Check for noindex tags on pages you want indexed. These sometimes appear on production sites carried over from development environments.
- Verify that important pages are not behind JavaScript that Google cannot execute.
Structured data (schema markup)
Schema markup tells Google what your content means, not just what it says. For a UAE business, the most valuable schema types are LocalBusiness (with your Dubai address and coordinates), Service (for each service page), FAQPage (for FAQ sections), and BreadcrumbList (for navigation context).
Getting this right means Google can show rich results for your pages, which increases click-through rates even when you are not in position one.
Duplicate content and canonical tags
If your site is accessible at both http and https, or both www and non-www, or both with and without trailing slashes, you have a duplicate content problem. Google has to decide which version to rank. It often picks wrong. Use canonical tags to tell Google which URL is the authoritative version of each page.
Mobile optimisation
Over 70 percent of searches in the UAE happen on mobile. Google uses mobile-first indexing, meaning it crawls and indexes the mobile version of your site. If your mobile site is missing content, has tiny fonts, or breaks on common screen sizes, you will rank lower than your desktop experience would suggest.
Page speed quick wins
- Compress and serve images in WebP or AVIF format
- Use a CDN to serve assets from a location close to UAE visitors
- Remove unused JavaScript and CSS
- Defer non-critical scripts
- Enable browser caching with appropriate TTLs
Hreflang for bilingual sites
If your site has both English and Arabic versions, use hreflang tags. These tell Google which version to show to which user. Without them, Google might show your Arabic pages to English-speaking users in Australia, or your English pages to Arabic-speaking users in Abu Dhabi.
